Increase Gas Mileage This Summer
Gas prices are skyrocketing! Here are some tips for getting the best gas mileage possible with a few tips from the American Automobile Association (AAA) and Consumer Reports (CBS MarketWatch May 23):
-
Pack lightly when traveling and remove items that unnecessarily weigh the engine down such as roof racks or car-top luggage carriers;
-
Keep the tires inflated because it helps the car's handling and ride quality as well as its fuel-efficiency;
-
No need to invest in premium gasoline unless you have a certain sports or luxury car, so buy regular;
-
Don't speed and avoid stops and starts where you can;
-
Make sure your vehicle is up-to-date on it's maintenance--make sure the air filter isn't clogged, the tires don't need to be rotated, or that the brakes aren't due for replacing before you leave; and
-
Consider buying a fuel-efficient vehicle. If your current vehicle gets poor mileage, consider renting another if the trip is a great distance.
