Series I bonds: Your protection against inflation
Submitted by admin on Mon, 08/27/2007 - 21:50.Many people seeking shelter from a decline in fixed-income investment returns run for the cover of savings bonds.
One bond in particular, the Series I bond, is especially worth considering because it's the only inflation-indexed savings bond. It has a fixed-rate of return plus an inflation premium. You won't lose principal or the fixed interest rate.
CDs offer no inflation protection and are subject to state and local taxes, which further erode returns.

Laddering is defined as having more than one certificate with differing maturity dates. This means that in the future if you have immediate cash needs you would have money available in a short amount of time and that may save you taking a huge early withdrawal penalty.
We also have Money Market accounts to diversify your investment.
